The new version of Domusweb, designed by Mark Porter, was launched in October 2017, and the website’s editorial line was expanded to include new forms of creativity. Alongside the focus on architecture, design and art, and the distinctive Domus approach to these, the online editors aim to experiment with the new languages of specialised journalism, above all when these have a specific focus.
So we have decided to tackle the Design Week – the year’s most important event for the website – in a different way this year. As well as the photographers and journalists who usually work with Domus on interviews, reviews and live reportage from the events, we would like for the first time to use teams made up of young filmmakers and aspiring journalists to provide more immediate coverage of the world’s most important design event.
There will be five teams, each made up of a filmmaker and an editor. The topics will be chosen and developed in agreement with the editorial team (there will be meetings before the Design Week itself too). The videos will be published on the website and on Domusweb social networks with credits to the filmmaker and editor. The language can be English or Italian. The teams will be filming between 16 and 22 April 2018. In the preceding weeks there will be meetings to plan the themes and organise the work flow.

How to take part
- filmmakers should present a short video on a design (max 7mb). (an object, an event, a designer, etc.). Videos previously made for a different purpose will also be accepted.
- editors should present a short storyboard (500/1000 characters) illustrating the way in which they would cover a design, a designer, an event or one of the Milan design districts (Brera, Ventura, 5vie, Tortona, etc.)
The call is open to all Master’s degree students at the School of Design of Politecnico di Milano
Preference will be given to videos and texts in a reportage and online journalism style.
Selection
The deadline for entries, which should be sent to scuola.design@polimi.it, is 9 March
Selected candidates will be interviewed by representatives of Domusweb and the Politecnico by 16 March
Candidates will be notified of the final selection by the end of March
The successful candidates will be notified of the dates for the first two working meetings in early April
