The competition is searching for an emerging fashion designer to spend up to three months, this year in Ethiopia, creating an accessory capsule collection using tradition crafts. It is a brand new opportunity for students to participate in this International Sustainable Accessories Design Contest. Initiated by ABURY, presented by Dr. Hauschka and supported by AEG and Arts Thread, this project is especially directed to the talented designers emerging worldwide.
The two previous editions sent winners to Ecuador and Morocco, challenging designers from more 35 countries to take action and to give a new life to the world’s dying artisanal heritage, by blending their modern and visionary design with the spirit and so much loved artistic tradition from all time.
ADEx 2017 Timeline:
Stage 1: Applications will be available for online submission from the 27th of March 2017. The closing deadline is 5th of May 2017, midnight.
Stage 2: 9 semi-finalists will be chosen by ABURY. They will be featured online on the ADEx website for two weeks of public voting.
Stage 3: The 3 most voted designers will be presented to the ABURY jury, who will select the 2017’s winner.
The final result will be announced on a LIVE STREAMING event at the ABURY Design Experience Facebook Page – date yet to be determined.
CRITERIA:
Minimum age: 21 years old
Maximum 5 years after graduation.
Availability from August to October 2017
Any nationalities are welcomed.
2017’s PRIZE
Among other prizes, the winner will receive a travel, stay and production budget to create and develop an ABURY capsule collection and spend up to two months in Sabahar’s Ethiopian craft community. .
We kindly ask for your help to promote this contest among your students by:
1. Providing us with the post address from your school so we can send you a visual kit with ADEx posters and postcards for your students (to fix in libraries, passing rooms, etc).
2. Sharing this contest among your students through your online platform and intranet;
3. Taking 10 min of your class to introduce this great design opportunity;
4. Sending us your school logo, so we can feature you on our website as one of the participating schools worldwide;
